This church was part of Sir Christopher Wren’s building plans after the Great Fire of London of 1666. The previous church had been used for worship since the 12th Century. The ceiling is the highest of any City church and its bright open space and clear-glassed windows has given it the nickname ‘Wren’s Lantern.’
