Unbounden joy My January 2012 copy of the Artists amp Illustrators magazine has just arrived. Some months ago I had submitted a painting Early morning late summer Provence to the Landscape section and was shortlisted from thousands.Latest news is that I won the only Highly Commended awarded in that section. A glass of turps with ice and a sliver of lime is deserved I thinkThe painting will be on display at the Dulwich Picture Gallery in January.

We have just returned from a wonderful holiday in Hong Kong visiting our son who works there. During the visit we spent a week in the northwest of Yunnan Province in China visiting Lijiang and Dali and places in between. We hardly saw a Westerner So much inspiration for paintings and a most enthralling time. Here are a couple of pictures

Three of my paintings are on display with Neville Contemporary Art httpwww.nevillefineart.co.ukat Winter Antiques for Everyone at the NEC Birmingham Section 1 Stand FF5. This is my first public viewing with the gallery and it will be extremely interesting to hear public reaction in due course.Despite its name this show includes fine art. Im hoping that the gallery will be keen on my work longer term as I think they are the right sort of gallery as they have works that move a step beyond the norm and they stock a good selection.Fingers and paint brushes crossed

We all need some good news and here is something that has been going on for years but probably you have not known about it. Jane Krivine works tirelessly to bring young Arab and Israeli children together through tennis. Her father the late and wonderful Freddie Krivine started this work years ago after moving to Israel from England and Jane continues it as the Director of the Freddie Krivine Foundation. Do have a look at the Foundations website httpwww.freddiekrivinefoundation.orgIts people like Jane and her team who are making differences which will bring understanding and friendship between these children and young adults.

Just back from collecting from the Wallop Artists Exhibition 2011. Two originals sold plus a print and several greeting cards. One of the originals I shall miss in particular. As I update this blog I can hear an early sign of winter a mouse inside the wall of my studio. They camp close to a night storage heater but theyll have to wait as I dont want to switch on the heating until I have to. Last winters electricity bills were utterly crippling.

Hampshire Open Studios closed yesterday and I can now look forward to bringing back the chaos to my studio. It was a huge success with 17 original painting and numerous prints and cards sold. A percentage will be going towards the funds being raised to renovate our very dated village hall and also some to our very busy village choir of which Im a member of the merry band of warblers.A big Thank You to all who made it such a success. Now to prepare exhibits for the following exhibitions in September and OctoberSolent Scene at Sir Harold Hillier Gardens 3 September to 2 October httpwww3.hants.gov.ukhilliergardenshilliergardenswhatsonhilliergardensexhibitions.htmWallop Art Society annual exhibition. 2225 September Wallop Village Hall on A343.Painters Fine Art Society annual exhibition 1011 October 11am 4.30pm.
27 August 2011Well Ive never blogged let alone created one but now seemed a good time.My studio has been open since 20 August as part of Hampshire Open Studios httpwww.hampshireopenstudios.co.uk My village is almost at the extreme northeast corner of the county so we dont get so many visitors to studios as other places. In spite of that it is proving a great success.Im open until 4pm on Monday 29 August or by appointment at any other time or day including weekends. For information about my Open Studio 2011 and how to find me please see Exhibition page of my website.Heres one of the paintings that sold Gone Fishing It won a Highly Commended at an art exhibition in July so clearly there are a lot of frustrated fisherman out thereIm working on a private commission for a military caricature which adds to the variety of work that visitors can see in my studio while it is open to the public.Im also exhibiting at the Best of Hampshire exhibition httpwww3.hants.gov.ukeventssearchevent...
